The event,
organised by The Siberian Husky Club of GB, runs over a number of days. We are involved with the Rally on Saturday
& Sunday, which runs on “The Serpents Loch Trail” by Loch Morlich in Glen More. The competitors are divided into a number of
classes with all following the same course except the A Class (5-8 dogs) which
includes a repeat loop round part of the course. The competitors are set off at intervals and the winner is the
one with the fastest time.
We are tasked with
marshalling the event i.e. counting the teams into and out of the course and
making sure they don’t go the wrong way get lost etc in between – think of
other events - cars, horses, people and all the other daft things we end up
counting!
The rally starts at 09:30 both days. In position & On Air by 09:00
please. We expect the event to be
completed around 3.30 pm as it will be getting dark soon after this.
You should operate
from a vehicle but please ensure you wear warm clothes and have food and warm
drinks with you.
The start
position will call the finish to advise the number of each competitor
starting. It should be possible to do
this as they start, if not we will pass in groups of three.
The finish
will read back to the start to confirm valid receipt of the competitor number.
All other points need to keep a record of the
sequence of competitors numbers transmitted by the start /read back by finish and
then check off the competitors as they pass – this does not need to be
transmitted. Out of sequence
competitors will then be identifiable.
If a competitor becomes overdue – more than two out of sequence, I would
suggest, then you should advise control.
Following the
route should not be a problem to the competitors. If you are at a junction you can advise them the route to follow
– don’t let them head off along the wrong route!! Similarly if you are asked to assist, to hold a team to allow
harnesses etc to be untangled – you can do this – but only do this if you
are comfortable in so doing.
First aid for dogs / humans I am told will
be available. If you are advised of a
casualty please call control. Before
calling be sure you know:-
1)
the competitors location (where on the route are
they, are they still moving?)
2) the nature of the injury
3) the competitors number
4)
what form of assistance you are requesting!
Should be simple !! We will be working from vehicles, VHF simplex
- 10w into a 5/8 or better should be adequate.
Net Control will be by the Finish operator, use tactical call signs when
in position and on duty. Use licensed
call signs at all other times and comply with regulations.
