Newsletter – November 2000

I hope this finds you all in good health. With the return to GMT, dark nights and commercial Christmas being forced upon us I thought it would be good to remember summer events.

“Playing @ Home” we had a good year with our regular events, thank you to all who helped at the Wade Walk, Highland Cross and the Corrieyarrick.  The competitors and organisers appreciate our efforts.  We successfully used our own repeater at the Cross; building on this and my experiences at Mull I think we will try some re-engineering for next year’s Cross to reliably link in the Glen Licht positions and to make the closedown of the hill top equipment “transparent”.  Any comments? I envisage a test run sometime in May.

“Playing Away” this year was Steve at the Scottish Hill Rally, and the Ben Run. For the second year I helped at the Tour of Mull Rally this is an awesome event in scale of radio activity & engineering (and bad weather!) I’ve got provisional booking for next year, come along as more operators are required.  On a negative note for the first time in almost 10 years I wasn’t at Blair Atholl although Steve may have kept the Inverness flag flying.  Helping other groups at their events is something I believe we should do; at times we rely on external assistance and it’s a good opportunity to put faces to call signs and explore parts of Scotland.

“Playing Together” at Cannich in early September (Bonding1) we enjoyed good food and a range of group / individual activities. Lindsey searched through our box of photographs and we frightened ourselves by trying to remember “who, when and where”, Anne led a couple of walking groups while Arthur got peace to work on his films.  Thanks to Charles & Rita (& awning) for acting as the mother ship.  Bonding2 was held last weekend when Alan organised a walk around Loch an Eilein and swim lunch at Coylumbridge.  Who would like to organise Bonding3?

“Play Days 2001”.  In addition to the usual events Husky racing is back.  I have said the group will help as marshals at an event at Aviemore on 27th & 28th January.  More to follow…

Packet and the Internet allow me to achieve 100% electronic distribution of material to group members consequently producing newsletters such as this is easier – but I require content!  Please send me your news, comments and any changes to e-mail addresses etc.
