Technical Information

We operate principally on VHF and UHF Frequencies within the Amateur Band allocations i.e. VHF 144-146MHz, UHF 430-440 MHz.  We try where possible to adhere to the Emergency Communication Priority channels in the Band Plans.  The normal mode of operation is FM.

Often we deploy temporary repeaters (under licence).  We tend to stick to in-band units which although are complex and require specialised equipment have the advantage that all outstations in range hear both sides of the conversation. This improves operators situational awareness and reduces the need to ask questions!  We can and do deploy cross-band units and will also use link frequencies.

The frequencies  used at each event are detailed in the event communication plan.  The Inverness Group main channels (adopted 30/4/05) are

VHF - Alpha 145.225 MHz
VHF - Bravo 144.675
VHF - Repeater 145.675 (145.075 Tx)
UHF - Alpha 433.700
UHF - Alternate Alpha 433.750
UHF - Bravo 435.000

Where necessary we will operate on HF and use different modes including digital (AX25)
